Incredible!!

With 13 wide feet, I have always struggled to find a decent fit in the shoe department. However, I have just fallen in love with this shoe!!! I love walking around barefoot and have seen scores of people hiking around in the vibram 5 finger shoes (I am an avid hiker/backpacker), yet, whenever I have tried on the vibrams, the toe shoes never fit. This was mostly because of the little toe. My little toe is not long and doesn't really get into its own space on the vibrams and likes to come out. They fact that the Filas don't have a fifth toe, Hooray!! Also, I think it provides a little extra protection for that delicate little toe for anyone.I felt compelled to write this review because last weekend I put them to a major test, I took them with me backpacking and gave them a multi-mile trial. I was in the mountains and had 32lbs of gear on my back. These things were flawless! My feet loved them! After several hours in them, my feet hurt less than they would have if were wearing my favorite well worn in hiking boots. Although the soles on these are a bit heavier than those of the Vibrams, this was an advantage. With trails littered with sharp rocks and tree roots, the soles on these were perfect to protect my feet from a serious poking, yet allow them that total freedom of movement. They also have a heavier section of rubber and leather (or leather type material, idk) on that little double toe pocket. This was a big help when it came to accidentally kicking rocks (something I do all the time), I didn't hurt any of the little guys.No one shoe will ever be the shoe for everyone, but I recommend you give these guys a try, because if the shoe fits, you will love them!!

Better than Vibrams

After wearing vibrams for the last 5 yrs, wanted to replace. The newer versions just did not fit my 10.5 extra wide foot at all. So I looked around, found some local stores that carried other brands of toe shoes, and lo n behold found these. Simply put AWESOME. Much better construction than vibrams and truly fit my foot like a glove. I am happy again.

Awesome for trailing/swimming!

Shoes provide extra agility on the trail and protection against rocks while still keeping the almost barefoot feeling. Used these to wade through the a river with a very rocky bed and they worked like a charm. I also appreciate the protection on my little toes.. combing the 2 smaller toes is a nice feature! Bought these at academy for 49.99.. cant say enough good things!!

Good looks, light on the quality

I am a big Asics fan and the look of this product seduced me. This is a low quality product that just looks cool; if you like just "cool" then they are for you. The price is rather high for the low quality you get: thin construction, the insert is loose and you have to keep pushing it down for it to stay it (i.e. not founded to the foot path), and these are definitely summer shoes since they are so thin (and light) that your feet will get cold easily (no filling or padding inside). They walk well but don't run too well. I'd highly recommend the Asics Enduro 7's or ASICS GEL-Equation instead for about the same price or less (if you search). I have several pairs of Asics and the Gel-Kahana 3's or 5's are much better construction. These were made in Indonesia for probably $4.00 (at most). I can't recommend these unless you want to pay big bucks just for looks and not comfort. I give it 3 out of 5 just for looks; if I rated on construction and wear-ability I'd give it a 1 of 5. Pass on these, or get them if you want to look good and be patriotic (which is rare in itself..today).

Nastalgia Gift

My boyfriend had found these shoes on Amazon.com, and apparently they were a total throw back to when he was growing up. He put them on his Wishlist so I purchased them for him, to his surprise. The Seller, in short....was terrible. The pair of shoes arrived, but each shoe was a different size, 8.5 and 10.5!! How exactly does that happen? Anyway, I contacted them through Amazon.com and the tried contacting them directly, which was nearly impossible. They sent me a free return shipping label, let me exchange the shoes but not for the size I requested. Anyway, getting this gift took longer than expected which disappointed me big time. But the shoes look great on the boyfriend! He really fell in love with them. They are great casual kicks.

Good shoe!

This shoe was my choice after trying on various Salomons, La Sportiva and other Montrails.The tread is pretty agressive. Great for trails or ultralight hike-throughs.I just put 9 miles on them this morning, they felt great!Out of all the trail running shoes these were by far the widest non-wide sole and the most comfortable option for me.Pros:Lots of toebox roomWraps your heel and ankle wellAgressive cleat-like tread for trails

Inexpensive, and definitely cheap, consider your footshape too

OK, I've bought into this barefoot idea, but I didn't want to pay $90+ for the 5-finger Vibrams. I'd figure they out really retail for $45+. So I was lured to these ZEMs at $25+5 shipping.Don't be fooled. These are beach shoes, and in no way engineered to the quality or the comfort of the Vibrams.SIZE + SHAPE + CONSTRUCTION* I wear Men's 11s, ordered the large advertised to fit 10-11s, and the ZEMs are a bit big.* I have a foot where the big toe is the BIG toe, if your second and third toes are longer than your big toe, this might fit better, but for me, the whole top part for my outer feet is all floppy because my toes do not reach into the compartment, and since everything is so flimsy, things get floppy* BIGGEST PROBLEM: The neoprene footcover is stitched onto the sole such that it folds over it i.e. laid flat the neoprene touches the ground before the sole. it should not touch at all. I've only had these a week, but I see road abrasion tearing holes in short order. So if you are considering getting these things, only expect to run around in sand OR on a treadmill if you want them to last at all. But the way my foot swims around in them already based on their silly sizing, I don't think they'd be wise for anything that would involve lateral motion.All things being said, they are crap for what I'm looking for, but I'll give them a second star for those people who's toes are shaped differently and only want a treadmill shoe.

Good basic runner for the price... Sowing on the side and rubbing of neoprene on the ground. Size not easy to figure but once done it gives you a good barefoot runner slip on... Also bought the hi-bootie version much better and stays on better... good cannot wait for the new 360 generation look on their website it will be a five-toe killer..... coming in the summer 2011

A fine neutral, responsive, light-ish, not tight-fitting daily trainer

I just got a pair of these shoes in the mail today and was eager to take them out for a test run. My immediate thoughts are that they are are a fine, lighter-weight daily trainer with an average (maybe even above average) volume when it comes to fit. Folks comfortable with a neutral shoe with more responsive cushioning (not plush or pillowy) should feel right at home with these.Fitwise, the platform is fine for me. But the upper is a little roomier than I'd prefer in both the heel and the toebox. I should say though that I am 150 lbs, prefer to wear socks which are as thin and light as possible, don't have high-volume feet, and have a normal arch. Most problematic for me was the extra room in the heel which required me to really tighten up the top laces in order to prevent significant heel slippage. That said, I do agree with others here who mentioned the shorter laces. But since my feet aren't extraordinarily large and I prefer really cinching down the upper for a tighter fit, I am still able to double-knot them.Other than that, the only other notable thing worth mentioning is that these shoes, being a lighter-weight model, have about a few millimeters less midsole material than your average daily trainer. In other words, less midsole material means less material to absorb impact. The upside of this is that,in combination with the Speva midsole material, the ride of these shoes accommodates faster turnover and pace. The downside is that this is true only if your body can handle the greater amount of stress. Oh, and if you're also somebody who is trying to transition from heel-striking, then these shoes also have about an 8mm heel-toe drop according to a competitor's website. That's kind of in the middle of what you'll find with most running shoes nowadays. Not zero drop. But not your typical 12mm differential that's traditional.In closing, I'll just say a few more words about the midsole material Asics has used. The Solyte midsole material introduced by them a few years back has clearly supplanted Speva as the go to midsole foam used in their running shoes. Lately, there have been fewer and fewer options for you to chose from in the Asics line if you prefer Speva; this Gel-Extreme33 model happens to be one of them.As a runner who prefers to pick up the pace and not have to fight as much against a more heavily cushioned shoe, I can appreciate the qualities Speva brings to the table which include--but are not limited to--better responsiveness and "bounce-back". However this model appears to have been discontinued as it no longer shows up on the Asics website; nor are there any press releases stating an updated version coming down the pike. So with the departure of the Extreme33, Speva enthusiasts are left with just one option at the moment and are--to my knowledge--limited to the upcoming Lyte33 version 2. Note, the Excel33 version 2 may use it. But it's a hybrid Speva/Solyte model.If you're reading this, Asics, then hopefully you're taking notice that there are still people--folks who run a lot of miles and buy a LOT of shoes--out there who still want models with Speva included. It may be a little heavier than Solyte is. But some of us out here are fine with that given the benefits that it brings to the table.As there are only 8 miles on these shoes at the moment, I can't speak to their longevity. But I'll try to remember to update this after--hopefully--another few hundred miles.Cheers and happy running, people.

Worst Shoes Ever

These are the worse shoes ever created by asics. The first week or two were great. During the third week, I began having horrible back pains. I went to a chiropractor a few times because I thought I had tweeked something. After the third trip in 4 days, I figured it had to be the shoes. I put on old pair of shoes and within the day, my backpain had gone away. I did try wearing them one more day, and the pain came back. I would not recommend these shoes to anyone. I am a Salomon shoe guy from now on.

pretty nice running shoes

I wear a size 15 shoe and have a very flat arch. I tend to buy high top basketball shoes even for running or the gym because they have good arch and ankle support. I like how these shoes fit but when I was running on the treadmill at the gym I experienced some pain in my shins that I didnt get while wearing my high tops. I think it might have to do with the lack of arch support in these but I havent gotten a chance to run outside with these. Theyre great for when I just do lifting days at the gym and the price was right. I feel as though the laces could extend a little higher on the foot toward the instep but thats just my opinion I am currently training for a triathlon and once it gets warmer out I will fully test these and maybe order another pair for my race.

Great Shoes - Perfect replacement for my Asics Nimbus 12's

Tried several different brands of running shoes over the years(New Balance, Asics, Pearl Izumi, etc) and struck gold with the Asics Gel Nimbus 12's. As all good things do, then come to an end and Asics moved onto the 13's, which were very different for me and not a good fit. As the drawing board was filling up, I tried the M770's. They fit and run just like the Nimbus 12's and I am inclined to buy several pairs just to make sure that I have shoes for the next year. I am a bigger guy and these have great support. I would say a 4 1/2, but the review board only allows a 4 or 5. I have always liked New Balance but not a fan of their plain colored shoes. So this was a great buy for shoes and color.

Love them, very comfortable

I am very happy with these shoes. I have a hard time finding shoes in my size (11.5 4E) and it was easy to find them. The shoes are comfortable and stylish and the price is right.

FIt and Look

I've chosen New Balance, for the most part, since they built running shoes in Massachusetts in the late 60"s (that's 19-&60s!) The toe box on this 10.54E is comparatively narrow. Support and arch seem OK. The shiny black patent leather look of the trim is a bit over the top - and not necessary for a running shoe.
